The fortunate players who get to choose their own number often choose a lucky number, stick with the one they’ve always worn or wear a number in honor of a family member. Some players though, choose a number that’s cute or a deep and meaningful number.

Tsvetan Sokolov

Tsvetan Sokolov is a Bulgarian volleyball player, known as a member of the Bulgaria men’s national volleyball team and Russian club Dynamo Moscow, participant of the 2012 Summer Olympics, and bronze medalist of the 2009 European Championship. Sokolov is a multiple winner of the Champions League and Club World Championship, multiple-time Italian Champion (2011, 2017, 2019), Turkish Champion (2016), Russian Champion (2021).

Maurício Borges

Maurício Borges Almeida Silva is a Brazilian volleyball player. He is known as part of the Brazil men’s national volleyball team, 2016 Olympic Champion, silver medalist of the 2014 World Championship, gold medalist of the 2019 World Cup, South American Champion (2013, 2017), Brazilian Champion (2007, 2012). On club level, he chose to play for Vôlei Taubaté.

Morena Martinez Franchi

Morena Martínez Franchi is an Argentine female volleyball player. She is known as part of the Argentina women’s national volleyball team and participated at the 2016 Women’s Pan-American Volleyball Cup, the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix (in 2014, 2015, 2016), the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, and the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.

At club level she played for Velez Sarsfield before moving to Budowlani Toruń in August 2016.

Tandara Caixeta

Tandara Alves Caixeta is a Brazilian professional volleyball player. She is known for playing with the Brazil women’s national volleyball team and for Sesc-Rio in the Brazilian Superliga. She competed for Brazil in the 2012 Summer Olympics, winning a gold medal. She is 1.84 m (6 ft 0 in) tall. She is the daughter of Evaldo Caixeta, a former amateur player with Banco do Brasil Athletic Association. At the age of nine, after trying many different sports, she saw a TV advert and decided to go to a volleyball trial.

In 2011, she was selected for the Brazil team for the first time and won gold in the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, before becoming an Olympic champion in London in 2012. She has been one of the top scorers in the Brazilian Women’s Superliga.

She is known for breaking records in the Brazilian Superliga. In the 2013/2014 season, she broke the record of most points in a match, she scored 37 points. In the 2017/2018 season, she broke her own record, scoring 39 points, as well scoring 626 points in the season, as this also being one of the highest marks in the country. Again in the 2019/2020 season, she broke her record, scoring unbelievable 40 points in 4 sets, as this being one of the highest marks in the history of volleyball in the Brazilian courts.

Caixeta won the 2017 South American Championship Most Valuable Player award. She later won the 2017 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup Best Opposite Spiker award.

During the 2020 Summer Olympics, she was provisionally suspended for doping ahead of Brazil’s semi-final against South Korea. Brazil ultimately won the silver medal at the tournament, and though suspended, Caixeta was still listed as a medalist, pending the outcome of the doping investigation.

Marie-Alex Bélanger

Marie-Alex Bélanger is a Canadian female volleyball player. She was part of the Canada women’s national volleyball team, and participated at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, and 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.

Bélanger played U Sports volleyball for the University of Montreal Carabins for five seasons from 2013 to 2018. At the U Sports National Championship, she was a member of the bronze medal Carabins team in 2015. In 2018, she won both the Mary Lyons Award for U Sports Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year and also the BLG Award for the U Sports Female Athlete of the Year.

Liu Yanhan

Liu Yanhan is a female Chinese volleyball player. She won the 2013 FIVB Women’s U23 Volleyball World Championship.

Pablo Crer

Pablo Damián Crer is an Argentine volleyball player, known as a member of the Argentina men’s national volleyball team in 2010-2021, participant at the Olympic Games (London 2012, Rio 2016), Argentine Champion (2017, 2019). At the professional club level, he chose to play for Trefl Gdańsk.

Crer started playing volleyball in Rosario for the team Sonder, a Santa Fe club that grows and develops talented players.

Felipe Moreira Roque

Felipe Moreira Roque is a Brazilian volleyball player. He is known as a member of the Brazil men’s national volleyball team. On club level, he chose to play for Brazilian club Vôlei Taubaté.

Reine Ngameni Mbopda Davina

Reine Ngameni Mbopda Davina is a Cameroonian female volleyball player. She is known as a member of the Cameroon women’s national volleyball team.

She was part of the Cameroonian national team at the 2018 Montreux Volley Masters, and 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.

Blair Cameron Bann

Blair Cameron Bann is a Canadian male volleyball player. He is known as a member of the Canada men’s national volleyball team and German club Düren, a participant in the 2016 Summer Olympics, and a gold and silver medalist at the NORCECA Men’s Volleyball Championship in 2015 and 2013.

Blair was born in Edmonton, Alberta to parents Robert and Gisele Bann. He started playing volleyball at the age of 14 for his school team, while playing for local club NAVC Gold during his high school years.

After playing for the UBC Thunderbirds for 5 years, he signed with German club Düren in 2011. He has spent the majority of his career there, apart from a one-year stint at Nantes Rezé MV in the 2013–14 season.

Blair first joined the national team in 2009. He has helped the team win gold and silver at the NORCECA Men’s Volleyball Championship in 2015 and 2013, and was a member of the squad that finished 5th at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In June 2021, Bann was named to Canada’s 2020 Olympic team.

Daniele Lavia

Daniele Lavia is an Italian volleyball player, known as a member of the Italy men’s national volleyball team, participant of the 2020 Olympic Games. On club level, he chose to play for Italian club Trentino Volley.

Ana Yorkira Binet Stephens

Ana Yorkira Binet Stephens is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic. She was born in Sánchez, Samaná.

She participated as the libero for her Girls U-18 National Team at the 2008 NORCECA Girls Youth Continental Championship U-18 held in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. There, her team won the bronze medal and she won the Best Receiver and Best Defense awards.

With her National Junior Team she won the Silver Medal playing as wing spiker, at the 2009 U20 World Championship, at Mexicali, Mexico. She competed for her native country at the 2009 FIVB Girls’ U18 Volleyball World Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, wearing the number #6 jersey and playing as wing spiker. There she ended up in 11th place.

At the 2010 Hato Mayor Beach Volleyball Tournament beach volleyball (three) with Niverka Marte and Marianne Fersola, they won the gold medal.

After winning the gold medal at the 2010 Pan-American Cup with the senior team, she won the silver medal at the 2010 NORCECA Junior Continental Championship U-20.

In late September, she participated with her Senior Nacional Team who won the gold medal at the 2010 Final Four Cup.

Binet played at Hato Mayor, winning the gold medal in the annual Sport Festival in Beach Volleyball, playing with Altagracia Mambrú and Niverka Marte.

Hiroaki Asano

Hiroaki Asano is a retired Japanese male volleyball player. He used to be a part of the Japan men’s national volleyball team. On club level, he only played for JTEKT Stings since 2012. On April 9, 2021, the club announced that he would retire after the 69th Kurowashiki All Japan Volleyball Tournament, but it was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Marcin Janusz

Marcin Janusz is a Polish volleyball player, known as a member of the Poland men’s national volleyball team. At the professional club level, he chose to play for ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Polish Champion (2018).

In 2015, Janusz came back to Skra Bełchatów. On 7 February 2016, alongside PGE Skra, he won the Polish Cup after beating ZAKSA in the final. In April 2016, he was a member of the same team which won a bronze medal of the 2015–16 PlusLiga season.

Lee Da-yeong

Lee Da-yeong is a South Korean female volleyball player known for playing as a setter for the South Korea women’s national volleyball team. She is the twin sister of Lee Jae-yeong, who was also a member of the South Korea national volleyball team until her suspension.

Lee Da-yeong started her international career similarly to her twin sister and they have played together in several international events for the national team, including the 2014 Asian Games held in South Korea, at which they clinched the gold medal. Other tournaments at which they have competed in together include the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League, the 2018 Asian Games, and the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup in September 2019.

Chatchu-on Moksri

Chatchu-on Moksri is a Thai indoor volleyball player. She is known as a member of the Thailand women’s national volleyball team.

Chatchu-on moved to the Thai club Supreme Chonburi for the 2017 season, playing on loan. She played the 2014 Asian Cup finishing in fifth place and the 2014 World Championship ranking in the 17th place. She also played the 2016 World Grand Prix ending up in the ninth place.

In 2018 she played with the local Supreme Chonburi on loan.

She played in 2019 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship with Supreme Chonburi on loan.

Aslı Kalaç

Aslı Kalaç is a Turkish female volleyball player. She is 183 cm (6.00 ft) tall at 73 kg (161 lb) and plays in the middle blocker position. She is known for playing with Yeşilyurt Women’s Volleyball Team. Kalaç debuted in the girls’ youth national team in 2011, and became a member of the Turkey women’s junior national volleyball team, wearing number 9.

Her father canalized her in 2006 summer to volleyball after she was engaged in swimming sport for one year. In the beginning, she was coached by Münip Özdurak at Yeşilyurt Women’s Volleyball Team. After playing for two seasons at the TVF Sport High School, she signed in July 2011 for Yeşilyurt Women’s Volleyball, which competes in the Turkish Women’s Volleyball League.
