There is a light rail system that serves the city, but primarily serves the North Coast and southern suburbs. About half a mile from the arena there is a stop at Steel Plaza station. Several city bus routes have stops serving the city center. All routes 61, 71 and 81 have stops within the PPG Paints Arena.

Port Authority Bus Service

The following routes serve the zone surrounding the PPG Paints Arena.

Stops at the entrance on Fifth Avenue and stop at the exit on Forbes Avenue:

  • 61A East Pittsburgh-Wilkinsburg;
  • 61B Braddock- Swissvale;
  • 61C McKeesport-Homestead;
  • 61D Murray;
  • 71A Negley;
  • 71C Point Breeze;

In addition, many other routes stop in the city center within walking distance of the PPG Paints Arena. To plan a trip by public transport, use Trip planner Port Authorities or google maps.

Light Port Service

The light rail service of the Port Authority, commonly known as “T”, connects three stations in the city center with the station square and the Southern Hills.  Centrally situated stations are situated on Steel Plaza, Wood Street and First Avenue, and Steel Plaza is closest to PPG Paints Arena, Ross Street and 6th Avenue.  Service in Gold The triangle is free at any time.

Uber

Uber will increase the convenience and reliability of the trip for fans and guests attending all events at the PPG Paints Arena. Uber will help you get past the crowd in the parking lot with the help of a new special landing zone and landing on Fullerton Street on Wylie Avenue — opposite the Verizon Arena gates!

Most fans will enter the PPG Paints Arena via Trib Total Media Gate, but there are three more entries around the facility. The large lobby contains a team store, ticket offices and escalators to the main hall.

The ice surface is visible from certain points in the hall on both levels. Crossing narrow lounges can be difficult during breaks. Toilet space is limited at the top level, so plan your trips accordingly.

The site of the arena advertises a wide space object. PPG Paints Arena up to 24 inches wide claims that it contains “the most convenient arrangement of seats in the NHL.” All seats have excellent lines of vision. In an unusual setting, the upper hall is situated at the top of the seating bowl, which means that those in the row BUT, must climb stairs to climb to and from their seats.

Where to eat?

PPG Paints Arena offers a varied and respectable menu for fans of hungry penguins. All the basics of your arena can be found in the stands, which are situated in both rooms. Where the PPG Paints Arena really shines is the range of premium and specialty products.

Local favorite Primanti Bros. sells its signature sandwiches, which include meat, cheese, tomatoes and cabbage inside section 119. Other local favorites include meat and potatoes, burgatory and a smokehouse.

For the first time, PPG Paints Arena visitors may be surprised to find that you cannot buy Coca-Cola or Pepsi products here. The soft drink shown is RC Cola, which makes it one of the few arenas in the country where Cola Wars are held.

Fans looking for an adult drink at the PPG Paints Arena will no doubt be impressed by the dozens of brands available here, ranging from national beers to local craft dishes. Favorites from local breweries North County Brewery and Church Brew Works are represented. Of course, no self-respecting plant in Pittsburgh will be able to work without selling Iron City beer.

Atmosphere

Penguins suit your standard professional sports show. Exists a lot of activity around, to keep a random fan interesting, and with the team on the ice the annual contender for the Stanley Cup, a lot, to keep the hard-core fan interested as well. And Pittsburgh has its share of fans. However, the atmosphere is not all that can be. While the Pittsburgh fans are packing the house, and the Penguins can boast an impressive home ice record, this is not considered one of the loudest or most intimidating places in the league.

Neighborhood

Despite the location of the PPG Paints Arena in the city center, there are not so many in the immediate vicinity of the object. Interstate 579 and Duquesne University (AJ Palumbo and Arthur J. Rooney Field are situated just a few blocks from the arena), the zone around the arena is missing a bar and restaurant scene that is present in many cities. Penguin fans pack Buford’s Kitchen on game days, but visiting fans have little interest when they visit.

Visitors to Pittsburgh are likely to travel to the north coast, where PNC Park, Heinz Field, Rivers Casino and Andy Warhol Museum are situated. Another option is the Strip district, where there are many shops and restaurants. To enjoy the best nightlife in Steel City, head south, where East Carson Street has many great bars and restaurants.

The fans

Pittsburgh is at average of 100 percent power at flow season. Typically, such attendance deserves excellent results, but Penguin fans have a reputation as leaders. In two cases, the team had to be rescued by the league due to the poor support of the fans.

While the team is at the top of the standings and includes superstars like Sidney Crosby and Evgeny Malkin, fans collect PPG Paints Arena. Penguins compete with the Steelers in terms of fan support, and the zone is full of black and gold at night games.

Additionally

Outside the Trib Total Media Gate on Central Street is “Le Magnifique” — a statue of Mario Lemieux, who scored against the New York islanders on December 20, 1988. It took more than 15 months to make a statue of 10 feet weighing 4,700 pounds. The statue commemorates Lemieux’s 247th career goal. Lucky Islander defenders Rich Pilon and Jeff Norton are part of the figure.

An extra point is awarded for the Wall of Champions, showing local high school hockey T-shirts.

Banners with five banners of the Stanley Cup (most of which were not composed by the original Six team), numbers for retired Mario Lemieux and Michelle Brier, as well as numerous divisions and conferences hang on the rafters of the PPG Paints Arena.

PPG Arena holds a LEED Gold Certificate from the United States Green Building Council. Based on the sustainable development of sites, energy efficiency, water saving, choice of materials and the quality of the indoor environment; this is the only gold certified arena in the NHL.

Each fan in the PPG Paints Arena receives a free copy of Show Time Magazine, an arena program filled with schedules, articles, statistics and more.

Design and construction

Populous, PNC Park and Heinz Field, designed the building in collaboration with local architect Astorino to develop building documents, while ICON Venue and Oxford Development are in charge of the arena building.

The Penguins have contacted the Pittsburgh Technology Council, which has 1,400 businesses, to find new technologies to incorporate into the design of the arena. On-demand playback from touch screens will be available in luxury suites, while the Yinz Cam, a system developed by students at Carnegie Mellon University, will allow amateurs to view instant replays from different perspectives on their mobile phones. The capacity of the arena will be 18,087 for hockey, in honor of the number 87 Sidney Crosby, and 19,000 for basketball games. Venue will contain from 14 536 to 19 758 concerts, depending on the layout.

This location will also include 1,950 club seats and 66 suites in honor of number 66 Mario Lemieux. Ticket prices will range from $115,000 to $150,000 per season for luxury boxes to individual tickets for games at $22. Ken Sawyer, chief executive officer of Penguins, asked to model the interior after the place that was then called Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman called the building “very well designed.” Bettman liked the size of the halls and the view of the Pittsburgh skyline.

Mario Lemieux, along with the official state and local authorities, ceremonially broke the ground in the new arena on August 14, 2008. Shovels, with ramparts, made from used clubs the team captain Sidney Crosby were used for the pioneering ceremony. The installation of metal structures took place from January 2009 to August 2009. While the arena was being built, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup and brought the Cup to the arena construction site on July 9, 2009, during the off-season.

The arena was originally named after Consol Energy, the largest bituminous coal producer in the United States, who signed a 21-year agreement with Penguins   . Secondary arena sponsors are PNC Wealth Management, UPMC, Verizon, American Eagle Outfitters and Dick’s Sporting Goods, the last three of which are active sponsors, transferred from Civic Arena. On October 4, 2016, PPG Industries acquired the title rights from Consol as a result of the fact that Consol wishes to withdraw from the title agreement due to the company’s financial difficulty due to low energy prices. Consol, which also plans to expire the naming rights agreement for Consol Energy Park, will remain a corporate sponsor and the Penguins will play a smaller role.

Like most of the other NHL arenas, Penguins use the horn when the team scores a goal at home. It is also played just before the start of the home game and after the victory of the penguins. Their current goal horn made by Nathan Manufacturing, Inc. and presented in connection with the arrival of Sidney Crosby to the team, was moved from the Civil Arena to the PPG Paints Arena after the Penguins closed the Civil Arena.
