Miller Park

Miller Park is a baseball park located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is home to the Milwaukee Brewers and was completed in 2001 as a replacement for Milwaukee County Stadium. The park is located just southwest of the intersection of Interstate 94 and Miller Park Way. The title sponsor is the Miller Brewing Company. Miller’s contract with the stadium was for $40 million.

Club Infield

Club Level Infield box seating includes in-seat wait service and access to the SKYY Lounge where fans can enjoy large open lounge area seating in a climate-controlled covered common area.

The SKYY Lounge features upscale food and drink options as well as lounge-style seating for Club and Suite Level ticket holders.

Club Outfield

Club Level Outfield box does not feature in-seat wait service as this amenity is exclusive to the Club Level Infield Box Sections (320-339). However, ticketholders will still be able to access the SKYY Lounge where fans can enjoy large a climate-controlled lounge area. The SKYY Lounge also offers upscale food and drink options.

Best Seats for Great Views of the Field at Miller Park

Miller Park features 4 primary tiers of seating, and fans can find excellent viewing options from just about every one other than the upper deck Terrace level.

Some of the very best seats for watching a Brewers game are located in sections 111-113 (first base side) and 122-124 (third base side). Though the netting extends to sections 112 and 123, these seats will allow you to still feel close to all the action on the field as well as the dugouts. Rows 10-21 give excellent viewing height, and be sure to avoid rows 22 and higher in sections 111 and 124 as the adjacent Founders Suites can be distracting.

On the third base side (122-124) you will be close to the visitor’s dugout, however if the roof is open for a bright summer day game these seats can get very hot.

For those who want to be on the lower level but prefer a home plate view, we recommend considering seats in rows 12-21 of sections 116 through 119. The angles here are excellent as you can easily follow the pitchers release point and tell whether or not a batter is crowding the plate. You will be behind the protective netting here, which is why we picked the upper rows as the netting becomes a bigger distraction the closer you are. Avoid rows 22+ in sections 117-118 to limit feelings of tunnel vision from between the suites and under the overhang.

A more affordable option with good views on the lower tier can be found down the right field line in section 108. These seats are the first which begin to angle more towards the infield providing a comfortable viewing perspective to the back of the infield. The right field corner will be difficult to see, however these seats are a good choice thanks to the seating angle and location on the shadier side of the stadium (trust us, you’ll be baking in the sun down the third base line on a hot summer day with the roof open at Miller Park, and will find every reason imaginable to visit the concourse just to cool off).

The Loge Level seats are another great option for watching a Brewers game thanks to the ideal viewing elevation while still feeling close to the field. The best places to be on the Loge Level are sections 212-218 in the first ten rows of seating. Views range from behind home plate to being in line with the Brewers dugout along the first base side. Rows 1 through 10 were hand picked as they almost feel like a lower level view, and be sure to avoid rows 11 and higher in section 215 so you limit the press box from impeding your view.

Among the 300 level sections (also known as the Club Level at Miller Park), our favorite seats for watching a baseball game are those closest to home plate. Sections 327-332 give you a straight away view of the entire diamond, as well as the videoboard above center field. And with in-seat food and beverage service, you’ll spend minimal time away from your seat and more time watching the ballgame.

Ticket sales kiosks, located throughout Miller Park, allow fans to make future game ticket purchases. During all Miller Park events, staffed ticketing kiosks are located at both the Home Plate ticket office on the Field Level concourse and directly behind section 221 on the Loge Level Concourse. Self-service kiosks are available in various locations, including the Hot Corner and the Loge Level. Additionally, a kiosk is located outside of the Home Plate ticket office to provide Will Call distribution services.

Family Sections

Alcohol is not permitted in any of the family sections.  Fans may purchase family section tickets in 217, 309, and 417 for all games on a first-come, first-served basis besides Opening Day, Postseason and Special Events.

Senior Strolls, presented by WPS Health Insurance

Following select Wednesday and Thursday day games during the 2018 season, seniors will be invited to stroll around the outfield warning track of Miller Park. Dates include: April 18, May 9, May 23, May 30, June 13, June 27, July 25, August 9, and August 22. Senior Strolls are subject to change or cancellation.

The Brewers Ticket Office is located at Miller Park, near the Home Plate Gate entrance. The Ticket Office is open during the off-season Monday through Friday. Select windows at the Home Plate Ticket Office (located on the outside of the building) remain open for 15 minutes following the conclusion of each home game. Fans coming to Miller Park within four hours of the start of a Brewers home game to purchase tickets for future dates will be directed to park on the west side of Miller Park near the ADA bus drop-off.

How to get there?

Attending a Brewers game at Miller Park is a unique and exciting entertainment experience. Perfectly situated and centrally located just minutes from Downtown Milwaukee, General Mitchell International Airport and the surrounding Milwaukee suburbs, Miller Park is one of the Midwest’s most unique venues. The best way to get to Miller Park is to plan ahead and consider all the transportation options available to you. Access to the Brewers 12,600-stall guest parking areas generally begins three hours prior to game time (subject to change).

From north

From Green Bay: Take I-43 South to I-94 Westbound Ramp (Madison exit), continue on I-94 Westbound to Miller Park Way.

From Fond du Lac: Take Southbound 41/45 to I-94 Eastbound (Milwaukee exit). Follow I-94 Eastbound to Miller Park Way.

From east

From Lakefront: Starting from east of the Downtown (Marquette) Interchange on I-794 heading west, continue onto I-94 Westbound to Miller Park Way.

From south

From Chicago/ General Mitchell Airport: Go north on I-94 Westbound to the Marquette Interchange and follow I-94 Westbound to Miller Park Way.

From Beloit: Take I-43 North to I-894 Northbound. Follow this to I-94 Eastbound (Milwaukee exit). Follow I-94 Eastbound to Miller Park Way.

From west

By bike or on foot

Traveling to Miller Park by bicycle or on foot is easy via the Hank Aaron State Trail. The Hank Aaron State Trail provides a continuous connection between Milwaukee’s Miller Park Stadium and the Lake Michigan lakefront for bicyclists, walkers, runners, and skaters. An asphalt paved path follows portions of the Menomonee River from Miller Park to the Sixth Street Bridge.

Bike racks are located near the Klement’s Sausage Haus, east of Miller Park, at Helfaer field and the Ballpark Plaza near the Clock Tower.

ADA Parking

Accessible parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis to those displaying a valid state issued hang tag or license plates. If you have pre-purchased parking and do not have an appropriate hang tag or license plate, you will be directed to the area indicated on your parking pass. If all marked accessible parking spots are exhausted for an event, a parking attendant will direct you to the best available parking. Violators who park in accessible parking and fail to display proper plates or permits may be ticketed and/or towed at owner’s expense. For additional information, please call (414) 902-4979.

Bus/RV Parking

All commercially licensed oversized vehicles (buses, limos) and non-commercially licensed RVs over 36 feet in length must park in the bus area designated in the Miller Lot. Bus parking tickets can be purchased from the Brewers Group Sales Department at (414) 902- GRPS (4777) at least 48 hours in advance or by calling the Ticket Office at 414-902-4000.

Parking locations will be determined by staff as needed and early entry to lots is not permitted. Bus parking is for buses only and additional passes purchased cannot be used for open tailgating space. Tailgating is permitted in drive lanes at the front or rear of the bus/RV. Tailgate grids may be purchased from Brewers Group Sales at (414) 902-GRPS (4777) and grids are not available in the bus parking area.

Oversized Vehicles

All vehicles (including those with accessible hang tags) that exceed the dimensions of more than one parking stall (longer than 18 feet) are considered oversized vehicles. As such, they are subject to the following day-of-game parking charges: Non-commercially licensed oversized vehicles (longer than 18 feet but shorter than 36 feet) will be required to pay for two parking stalls in the area they are parking.

This equates to $40 for Preferred Parking and $24 for General Parking most game dates. For Opening Day, Cubs games and weekend (Saturday/Sunday) game dates the cost is $50 for Preferred Parking and $30 for General Parking. Parking locations will be determined by staff as needed.

Motorcycle/Scooter Parking

Motorcycle parking is located in the Cooper lot and General Parking rates apply. General parking passes can be purchased in advance online or by calling the Ticket Office at 414-902-4000. Each motorcycle/scooter is subject to a charge. There may be two or more motorcycles parking in one parking space. All motorcycles and scooters must be state licensed vehicles.

All parking passes will be scanned at entry. Please make sure to bring the correctly dated parking pass. Parking passes that do not scan due to being reported lost/stolen, have an invalidate date, have been forwarded to another ticket holder or are a duplicate pass for any reason may be denied entry. A new parking pass at the applicable day of game rate will need to be purchased to gain access to the parking lot.

Bus

Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) riders can catch the Brewers Line (Rt. 90) (Miller Park) bus in the Water Street bar/restaurant district downtown, East Town (stops on Kilbourn, Prospect and Wisconsin Avenue) through Westown, Marquette University and stops along Wisconsin Avenue to Miller Park for all home games, starting with the home opener.

Provided for all Brewers home games, the Brewers Line (Rt. 90) (Miller Park) buses operate every 30 minutes for two hours before game time. For the home opener, Monday April 6th, against the Colorado Rockies, and games with projected heavy attendance, buses will operate more frequently. Return trip bus service leaving Miller Park operates for a half-hour after the end of the game.

Brewers Line (Rt. 90) (Miller Park) bus stops are located along Wisconsin Avenue from Jackson Street to 38th Street, on Prospect from Wells to Mason, on Kilbourn from Milwaukee to Van Buren and on Water Street from Juneau to State. Look for one of the new Brewers Line Bus Stop decals on the sign and the electronic destination signs that display “BREWERS LINE”. Buses drop passengers off at the MCTS transit area on Yount Drive on the north side of Miller Park.

On the return trip, buses leave the ball park from the MCTS transit area and serve certain eastbound bus stops which are announced inside the bus. Brewers fans can also ride the Goldline (Wisconsin Ave. – UWM), Rt. 23 (Fond du Lac-National) or the BlueLine (Fond du Lac-National) that stop within walking distance of Miller Park.

Fares for Routes 23, the Brewers Line (90), the GoldLine and the BlueLine each way are $2.25 in cash for adults, or $1.75 with an M*CARD. Fares for children (ages 6-11), seniors age 65 and older, and persons with disabilities with a valid ID are $1.10 in cash or with an M*CARD. Children under age 6 are free. Milwaukee County residents age 65 and older and persons with disabilities with a GO Pass ride free.

Bus Drop-Off (Special Needs)

Only buses with senior citizens and/or persons with special needs are permitted to drop-off at a location other than the bus parking area, and only if they arrive at least one hour prior to game time. Buses utilizing the special needs drop-off should adhere to the following guidelines:

• Please enter the Miller Park lots by taking I-94 to Miller Park Way South, followed by the Miller Park exit, and stay in the left hand lane. When you reach the end of the ramp, turn left at the traffic signal, and a parking attendant will assist you.
• Find out which bookmaker you can get a sign-up bonus from.
• The drop-off area is on the west side of Miller Park. Bus drivers and group leaders will receive a number from parking staff. The bus may conduct a U-turn and proceed back over Miller Park Way to the bus parking area, east of Miller Park Way and Miller Park, or may continue along the ring road toward the bus parking area.
• For pick-up at the conclusion of the game, buses should utilize the drop-off location.
• Buses may not pick up at the transit area or Hot Corner of Miller Park.
• Group leaders should present their number to parking staff stationed at the pick/drop-off location when their entire group is present and accounted for. Staff will radio to the bus parking area and their bus will be released.

Many local hotels and bars offer area shuttle service to Miller Park. Check with your local establishment. Area shuttle services use the drop-off area near the ticket office/Home Plate gate accessible via Yount Drive.

Attractions

Bernie Brewer, the team mascot, has a club house above the left field seats. Following every Brewers home run and victory, Bernie Brewer slides into a home plate shaped platform (The Kalahari “Splash Zone” was discontinued for the 2012 season). This is different from his old home at Milwaukee County Stadium, where Bernie slid into a giant mug of beer in center field which had been sponsored over the years by Pabst, Miller, and Sentry Foods.

During the home run celebration, a short burst of fireworks is shot out from the top of the center field scoreboard, and above Bernie’s club house, the call words of Brewers’ radio announcer Bob Uecker are illuminated, “Get Up, Get Up, Get Outta Here, Gone!”

1. The Hank the Dog mascot made his debut on September 13, 2014. Hank the real dog was found wandering the field at the Spring training complex in Maryvale, Arizona on February 17, 2014. He was named after former Brewer and Braves great Hank Aaron. He would soon become an international sensation.

2. The Barrelman mascot made his debut on April 6, 2015. The barrelman served as the team’s primary logo.
3. The Johnsonville Sausage Race occurs during each game in the middle of the 6th inning; it was moved from the bottom of the 6th inning to enable the sausages to create more excitement for the fans as the Brewers prepared to bat. The current “racing sausages” are the Bratwurst, the Polish, the Italian, the Hot Dog and the Chorizo. The chorizo sausage (to salute the region’s growing Latino population) was added for one race and then became a full-time participant.
4. During the 7th inning stretch, in addition to “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”, fans at Miller Park sing “Roll Out the Barrel”, in salute to Milwaukee’s beer-making history.

5. The Brewers also have statues of legendary Milwaukee players Robin Yount and Hank Aaron outside the front entrance of Miller Park, as well as also a statue of former team owner and MLB commissioner Bud Selig and Brewers longtime radio broadcaster Bob Uecker.

7. Helfaer Field is a youth baseball facility located outside of Miller Park. It was built on the same spot where County Stadium was located. The groundbreaking ceremony was named in honor of the Evan and Marion Helfaer Foundation, which was founded in 1974. Evan Helfaer was an original investor in the Brewers.
8. The Miller Park Walk of Fame was created to honor both the Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee Braves. It’s located outside Miller Park on the plaza near the home plate entrances. Former Brewer pitcher Teddy Higuera became the 18th honoree.

9. The Brewers Wall of Honor was created in 2014 to commemorate Brewers players, coaches and executives who meet a set criteria based on service to the club or career accomplishments. It’s located outside Miller Park on an exterior wall near the Hot Corner entrance. Brewers TV announcer Bill Schroeder became the 59th honoree on July 17, 2015.
10. The Selig Experience is an exhibit to honor former Brewers owner and retired MLB commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. It opened on May 29, 2015.

Construction

Miller Park is one of the largest construction projects in Wisconsin history. It was built with US$290 million of public funds from a 0.1% sales tax that began January 1, 1996, and is scheduled for retirement upon completion, sometime around 2017.

The tax is applied on purchases in Milwaukee County and four surrounding counties: Ozaukee, Racine, Washington, and Waukesha. The tax was controversial, in part because of the notion of using public funds for a privately owned sports team. The state senator who cast the deciding vote in the funding bill, George Petak of Racine, lost a recall election based on his vote for the stadium.

Groundbreaking took place on November 9, 1996, in a parking lot behind County Stadium. Originally scheduled to open in 2000, Miller Park’s construction was delayed after three construction workers were killed in an accident. A Lampson Transi-lift crane 3 (nicknamed “Big Blue”), brought in to build the roof, collapsed while lifting a 450-ton roof section, during windy conditions, on July 14, 1999, killing three workers.

A camera crew was filming construction of the stadium on that day and captured the collapse on video as it occurred. Repair work and an investigation forced the Brewers to stay in County Stadium for one more year, until 2001. There was some talk of having the Brewers move to Miller Park in the middle of 2000, but it was determined that too many corners would need to be cut for it to be a realistic possibility.

The stadium has a retractable roof, built in a unique fan-shaped style, with the roof panels opening and closing simultaneously in a sweeping manner from the first- and third-base sides toward center field. The complex and massive roof was a significant factor in the $392 million cost of the stadium.

It allows the seating area to be heated 30 °F warmer than the outside temperature when closed, allowing games to be played in inclement weather and in more comfortable conditions than an open-air stadium. The idea of the stadium having a retractable roof had been considered right away in the initial design, as to help counter the unpredictable Wisconsin weather in the early spring and late autumn.

The design team was appointed after a design competition in the mid-1990s. The architectural concept for the stadium was developed by the Los Angeles-based sports and entertainment team NBBJ, who worked closely with a Los Angeles-based team of engineers Arup, who were responsible for all stages of the structural and building services engineering design for the stadium, with the exception of the mechanical mechanisms that move the roof structure.

The original versions of these mechanisms were designed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America as part of a design and build contract, but they have now been replaced by new designs after their failure. The executive architect responsible for the delivery of the final stadium design was a Dallas-based team of HKS, Inc. In addition to these major players there were a significant contributions from local teams including Eppstein Uhen Architects.

The stadium design followed the trend of retro-designed ballparks with current amenities that began in 1992 with Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore.

The original grass playing surface was installed on March 10, 2001, with County Stadium’s surface infield dirt and home plate transplanted into the new stadium.

Additions

There were three additions to the stadium. Two sets of LED scoreboards were added. One replaced the formerly manually operated “out of town” scoreboards along the left and right field walls with a new set of LED scoreboards along the left-field wall. The new “out of town” scoreboards show continually updated information about other Major League games, including the score, hits, errors, outs, and an image of the field displaying the runners on base.

A second-tier marquee scoreboard was also added along the bottom of the 300-level of the stadium stretching from foul pole to home plate to foul pole, with the portion closest to the foul lines used to provide open captions of announcements from the public address system and advertisements. The section of the second-tier scoreboard above home plate displays statistics for those unable to see the main scoreboard above the center-field wall.

A field-level picnic area was added to the corner of right-field. The picnic area has a capacity of 75 and provides a place for fans to watch the game in a leisurely setting and be within feet of the right-fielder. Known first as the Mercedes-Benz Field Haus, the picnic area’s name was changed to AirTran Airways Landing Zone in 2009, and later to the current name, the ATI Club.

As the Brewers got closer to the team record of home runs in a season, a home run counter was added to the right of the center field scoreboard. In the shape of a gas pump, the counter was sponsored by Citgo, whose name could be seen as a play on words for a home run (C-It-Go). The counter kept track of the home runs hit by the Brewers during the season and when a home run was hit, the player’s name was shown on the display as well as the distance of the home run. The Citgo home run counter was removed after the 2009 season.

The Brewers also added a sponsored strikeout counter to the tier of the second deck of the right field bleachers, which illuminates a K when a Brewers’ pitcher notches a strikeout and keeps track of how many strikeouts as a team the Brewers have. Prior to this addition, Bernie Brewer would hang strikeout K’s from the railing of his club house, including backwards K’s to denote a called strike three.

In 2009, Miller Park’s outfield was replaced with “Lo-Mo” Kentucky bluegrass just like the infield was the prior year. The new turf, common in other ballparks around baseball, is denser and has a sand base, instead of the sand and clay mix under the original grass. The turf yields truer hops and fewer instances in which the baseball skips under an outfielder’s glove than the previous turf. Also for the 2009 season, the Harley-Davidson Deck was opened on the field level of the stadium in left-center field.

During the off-season between 2010 and 2011, the stadium’s original centerfield scoreboard (a smaller videoboard atop a larger black and amber message display board) was replaced by a full length and full color Daktronics 1080p high definition display board which is the ninth-largest screen among current MLB stadiums, along with a public address/sound system upgrade.
