Gazprom Arena (St. Petersburg)

Gazprom Arena is a sliding-roof stadium in the western part of Krestovsky Island in St. Petersburg, Russia, which serves as the home for FC Zenit St. Petersburg. The stadium was opened in 2017 for the FIFA Confederations Cup. It was called the St Petersburg Stadium during the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and the2018 FIFA World Cup.

Krestovsky Stadium is designed to have a bowl of continuous seating that works correctly, as around it. There are two tiers, with a landing at each end of the field slightly higher than on the sides.

Where to buy tickets?

Ticket prices for Zenit matches vary depending on where you would like to sit. If you are happy enough with places in Curva, then you will be looking for about 700-800 rubles. Move towards the stadium, and the price will rise to 800–1300 rubles, and tickets to the VIP zone — from 1600 to 1700 rubles. Children under 7 years old can attend matches for free.

The club’s website is the best place to start, but you can also get them by phone if your Russian is tolerable. In addition, you can get them at the box office or at ticket machines located in different places.

All options briefly

Basically, there are ways to get there by metro at three stations, some of which include several routes, including a short walk, and shuttles from four distant places, one of which is located near the Moskovsky railway station. A special transfer will go from the terminals of Pulkovo-1 and Pulkovo-2 airports. During the World Cup, the Pulkovo-2 airport terminal is open for charter flights with football fans, and it is usually closed. A bus runs between Pulkovo-2 and Pulkovo-1.

It is almost impossible to get to Krestovsky Island and the stadium by car, since on gaming days the territory will be almost completely closed to cars. A car or taxi can take you some distance from the place, and we will record a message whose location is closest to the arena.

Metro Routes For The Krestovsky Stadium

The nearest metro station to the St. Petersburg stadium is Novokrestovskaya (Green line on the metro map), opened in May 2018. It is not just close, we can say that she is adjacent to the meeting place. A walk from the station to the scene in the arena takes 10-15 minutes, including the time required to pass the security control.

The station will definitely be crowded on gaming days when a lot of fans will be loud and perhaps far from sober. The station is quite small, so for those who do not like fuss or families with children, we recommend another option.

There is a risk here: Novokrestovskaya and Begovaya stations were put into operation at the end of May, it is difficult to say that they passed rigorous tests in the conditions of maximum passengers.

The Krestovsky Ostrov metro station (Violet Line on the metro map) was the main station for football fans before the Novokrestovsky building. It is a 25-minute walk from the stadium. Finding a path is easy. The station has a single exit. Leaving the station you will see the entrance to the park. Entering the park, you will see a long straight alley (Batareynaya Road) leading to the stadium, which is visible from afar. After passing security control and reaching the place, the path from Krestovsky island station will take about 40 minutes.

A special free eco-transport service will be organized from the entrance to the park to the square in front of the stadium for the disabled.

What are the advantages here? First of all, you are likely to avoid a large crowd. Secondly, you can take a walk and have fun in the park, which offers various entertainments, including the amusement park Divo Ostrov, the largest in Russia.

The downside here is that, despite the lack of noise and fuss, there will still be many people here. The station may be a little crowded, but a long way to it will lead to the disappearance of human traffic.

Begovaya metro station (Green Line) is the next after Novokrestovskaya. It is located a 30-minute walk from the stadium (control procedures not included). Getting from Begovaya metro station to the arena of St. Petersburg is easy. When leaving the station, you walk along Savushkina street (Ulitsa Savushkina) on Yachtennaya street (Yakhtennaya Ulitsa), and go along Yachtennaya to Yachtennyy bridge (Yakhtennyy Most). Then go over the bridge to the stadium.

Advantages:

• there is no crowd at the station and on the way to the stadium;
• a walk along the Yachtennyy bridge gives a beautiful view of the Gulf of Finland and the tallest building in Europe, at Gazprom headquarters, called “Lakhta Center”.

Shuttles from various places within the city

On gaming days, a shuttle service is provided from metro stations:

• Vyborgskaya;
• Vosstaniya square (Ploschad’ Vosstaniya);
• Petrogradskaya;
• Chkalovskaya,

and the St. Petersburg airport Pulkovo, from Terminal Pulkovo-1 and Pulkovo-2.

Please note that:

• boarding is allowed only for ticket holders;
• no intermediate stops;
• shuttles start three hours before the start of the match;
• one of the shuttle’s routes is only one way, below it is designated as “one way only”. Other routes go back and forth within three hours after the end of the game.

Recommendation

OK, which option is better?

It depends on where you are staying.

If you stay near one of the metro stations where the shuttles go from or arrive at Pulkovo Airport or Moskovsky railway station and the Finlyandskiy railway station, then go by shuttle.

If not, it is best to go through the metro station Krestovsky Island.

How To Get To Krestovsky Stadium By Car

WC organizers strongly recommend that you do not use cars to visit Krestovsky Island and the stadium of St. Petersburg on gaming days.

Access to the stadium and car parking will be prohibited. Traffic on Krestovsky Island will be seriously limited, stops are prohibited. The closest point to the stadium, which can be reached by car or taxi, is the Piterland shopping center, located near the Yacht Bridge. You must park your car here and then walk to the stadium over the bridge.

Important: The yacht bridge is a pedestrian, only special transport is allowed into it.

The organizers recommend the following parking near the stadium:

• 126, building A, the Savushkina street, not far from the Atlantic City shopping center. It is near the Begovaya metro station;
• 72, building A, the Primorskiy avenue (Primorsky prospect). This parking in the shopping center Piterland, about which we mentioned above. The shopping center also has paid parking, the first hours are free, and for each subsequent one — 100 rubles. We believe that this is the best option if you decide to go by car, since the total amount for the safety of your car is unlikely to exceed 200 rubles;
• Go to a bookmaker and place your bets right now.
• 141, building A, the Savushkina street, near the Mercury shopping center. It is across the street from Begovaya metro station.
• 119, building 3, the Savushkina street, near the Podsolnukh shopping mall. It is about 1.3 km from Yachtennaya

Last tips from us: come to the games in advance. Delays in management cannot be excluded. The venue can seat up to 70,000 fans, and tickets were sold out. Holding the first half of the match in line is not something this arena has never seen.

Union is a funky bar in St. Petersburg that, as a rule, likes to drink and have more fun than anything else. Nevertheless, they show live football, so this is a decent place if you want to watch the match. Live music is also regularly played there, which means that if you like to have parties and watch sports, then this is absolutely the best place to go.
