The fans
Fans in Tampa love their Lightning; Night after night crowded houses are expected, mostly there are Tampa Bay fans. Unlike other expansion teams in the south, such as the Panthers or Hurricanes, where visiting popular teams gather huge crowds of travelers, Lightning is easily populated with home fans. This means that the locals are about as loyal as professional sports, which is rare in Florida. It also means that the Amalie Arena gets very loud during games; fans also know their hockey well and complain about bad referees or anxiety about goals scored with enthusiasm.

History
Tampa City paid $ 86 million, and Tampa Bay Lightning paid $ 53 million for the construction and infrastructure of the facility. It was opened in 1996 as the Ice Palace. The first hockey game was Lightning, the host of the New York Rangers, which Lightning won 5–2.
The stadium was built as a new home for the Lightning, necessary due to the lack of a major league-sized arena in the Tampa Bay zone. The two existing venues in the region, the Bayfront Arena in St. Petersburg and the Expo Hall at the Florida State Fairgrounds were too small for the NHL team.
