Transit: Season Service

Tri-met MAX train is the easiest way to get to Providence Park. The nearest garages are located in the center of Portland, although there are several businesses in the area that open their sites to fans. Most of the streets in the area have limited parking, so parking and walking can give you quite a long walk.

TriMet will provide additional services on game days, but please be patient and be prepared to wait, as each train can accommodate only about 350 people. Trains will return to the regular schedule about an hour after the match. Kings Hill / SW Salmon MAX station will be closed, starting from one hour before the start of the game, and resuming work 1.5 hours after its completion. The last Red Line train, heading east to the airport, arrives via Providce Park station at 10:30 pm

Additional shipping recommendations

Come early, stay up late: great shopping, restaurants and entertainment surround the Providence Park. Local bars and restaurants welcome Timbers fans before, during and after the games to enjoy all that the Northwest and Goose Hollow can offer. In addition, TriMet expects crowded trains and buses, so any help to facilitate the rush before and after the game on board is very much appreciated. Information about daytime gaming is available here.

Drivers should plan ahead, be careful — it is expected, that the streets and sidewalks are crowded on matchdays near Providence Park. Drivers who choose to drive must be safe, following signs and instructions from the police, drive slowly and be patient. To save time and avoid traffic jams on the roads, make a plan before leaving home or work, where you’ll park in the center of the city, and if you can use the express bus TriMet or walk to the game. Please note that SW 18th Avenue will be closed to the general public between W Burnside Street and SW Taylor Street, and SW Morrison Street will be limited to the western road, local traffic only between SW 19th and SW 21st Avenue.

More information can be obtained from the Portland Transportation Bureau.

Location

Providence Park is located in the southwest of Morrison in the center of Portland in 1844, bordered by the northwest and southwest areas of the city between 20th and 18th Avenue on Morrison Street. Providence Park is conveniently located near I-405.

Inside the stadium, it’s a little hard to get around. The hall is a decent size, but when you have a full hall, which is the norm, it quickly fills up. Bathrooms are a bit small and often there is a line.

Where to eat?

A wide selection of menu items is available on the day of the game Timbers. Local products and vendors are a prominent choice here. Names like Zenner’s, Tillamook and Widmer are options available to fans. Zenner’s choices include hot dogs ($ 6) and Polish dogs ($ 6.25). You can also buy kids ($ 7.50), cheese mac ($ 7) or a Portland sandwich ($ 9). USA). All of these items are available on the west side of the stadium.

On the east side of the stadium, which is under a very modern canopy, you can find special menu items. In the Bunk Bar, you can buy a kuban pork belly sandwich or pork hot dog with you for $ 13. If you are set to something else, why not try yakisoba ($ 5.50) or chicken curry ($ 7) from Wok About.

Beer Widmer is available at a price ranging from 7.25 to 9.25 dollars. If you need something stronger, good to drink ($ 7.50), premium drinks and the top shelf can be bought for 8.50-9 dollars.

Atmosphere

The stadium, which is almost 90 years old, has a huge character. The west side of the stadium shows its age with large wooden beams that support the roof, and the upper sections of the backless seats really evoke nostalgia. In contrast, the east side of the stadium is quite modern, added back in 2010. When the seats on the east side are empty, you can see Portland, spread out on the backs of the seats. Despite the fact that the parties are so different, this is the perfect combination of classic and modern.

I heard others comment on the atmosphere at the Timbers stadium and call it hyperbole. After the visit, I can definitely say that advertising and the atmosphere are legitimate. Between the house and the guests chattering songs that begin 60 minutes before the start of the game!

Neighborhood

Providence Park is located west of the center of Portland, mainly in the commercial area with the MAC (Multnomah Athletic Club — former stadium owner), The Oregonian (newspaper) and Lincoln High School, which are its neighbors in the Goose Hollow section. from the city.

There are many options for lovers before and after the game. The cheerful bullpen and the Bitter End pub are the two most popular places. A few minutes west of the stadium is the NW 23rd Ave, where visitors can find almost any available food option. Ave as a whole a few years ago was seriously modernized and is one of the most popular places in the city.

Oregon Park Zoo and Japanese Garden are a few minutes further west. The Japanese Garden is a very calm and relaxing place with stunning scenery and architecture. This is a great place to relax after the craziness of the Timbers game.

The fans

Football is king in Portland and it all starts with the Timbers Army. The army fills the northern part of the stadium and actively performs throughout the competition. Many MLS stadiums can boast a strong group of supporters, but it will be difficult for you to find another group of this size and size. They sing back and forth with fans of the opposing team before the game starts. how a baseball fan, I’m not used to such things, but it greatly enhances the whole experience. The Timbers are top notch, knowledgeable, passionate and loud.

Additionally

Timber Joey, who replaced Timber Jim’s talisman for a long time for the team, is a sight in itself. After each goal of the home team, he starts a chainsaw and removes it from the log that stands in front of the crowd. Slices are given to scorers or goalkeepers (if they keep a clean sheet).

If you need a souvenir from a trip to Providence Park, the team store has everything you might need. You can choose a shirt (25-30 dollars), caps (25-32 dollars), pennants (15 dollars), T-shirts (95-125 dollars) and so on. There are many places around the stadium to find exactly what you are looking for.

Coming out of the stadium, the entrance to Providence Park with ivy-covered walls and historic views. On the front wall is a stunning hand scoreboard, which is used to honor the old scoreboard with a change of hands from inside the stadium. This board now contains information about today’s game, as well as the schedule of upcoming games.

Continuing inward, the show at the east end of the room is worth some time. Against the background of a stylish wooden background, the pictures and descriptions illustrate well the history of the site, the stadium and the team.

Finally, an extra point goes to the gaming staff. For each area in which you risk before the game, you will be met by a kind helper and will ask you to take pictures and look around.

History

Since 1893, there was the Multnomah field, which consisted of sports fields with various stands. The stadium was built in 1926 for $ 502,000 by what is now known as the Multnomah Athletic Sports Club, which called it Multnomah Civic Stadium.

The site was used for college football (including seven Civil War games between the University of Oregon and Oregon State University), cricket matches and greyhounds. Up to the 1960s, thanks to its capacity, the most important football games held in Oregon and Oregon were held at this place. Oregon played 107 games at the Multnomah / Civic stadium between 1894 and 1970. The University of Washington conducted all its road games against the state of Oregon and the state of Oregon at the Multnomah Field / Multnoma stadium until 1966 (OSU) and 1967 (Oregon). This site also hosted the coronation of the Portland Rose Festival and the speech of President Warren G. Harding on July 4th..

In 1956, the Portland beavers moved to the stadium after their initial field, Vaughn Street Park, was convicted. In 1966, the Multnomah Sports Club sold the stadium for $ 2.1 million to the city of Portland, which renamed it Civic Stadium.

Renovations

In 2001, the reconstruction was carried out worth $ 38.5 million. United States, which has updated the living rooms and conference rooms, as well as added new luxury suites and club chairs. The repair improved the structural reliability of the facility and introduced a new sound system. Repair also includes some retro features, such as a hand-operated baseball scoreboard. At this point, PGE acquired the ring for names, and it became PGE Park.

In July 2009, after trying to find a new home for the MLS franchise and determine a place for a new home for Portland beavers, the Portland City Council approved a $ 31 million renovation to prepare PGE Park for the 2011 Major League football season., Readjusting the stadium mostly for football and soccer. The decision led to the departure of the beavers.

The repair was carried out by Turner Construction, which served as the general contractor, and also performed the repair in 2001, and Ellerbe Becket as the main architect. The presentation for the Portland Design Commission indicated that 5,000 seats would be added, resulting in a capacity of about 22,000, but only about 18,000 seats would be available on a regular basis..

Renovations met the standards of the Higher Football League, introduced a new playing surface that shifted to the west and north, and added space on the east and south sides, with new recreation areas and new amenities. The main video screen Lighthouse Impact 16 was designed by Anthony James Partners and has over 74 square meters of LED video. The Lighthouse B10 display has a long length on the east side, and more than 152 meters in the north and south. Since the project was close to completion, it was revealed that it exceeded the budget by $ 5 million. US, resulting in a total cost of reconstruction amounted to $ 36 million. USA. The agreement between the city and Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson meant that Paulson was responsible for any overruns in excess of $ 1 million.

The recently renovated stadium debuted on April 14, 2011, when the Timbers of the Higher Football League defeated the Chicago Fire, 4–2. Announced attendance at Timbers games in 2011 was 18,627, sold out.

Several thousand places were added for two games at the end of the 2011 season. About 2,000 seats were opened for the 2012 season, bringing the capacity to 20,438. After the 2012 season, in which the average Timbers attendance was 20,438, in the off-season 2012–13 Timbers expanded the field for the 2013 season, adding two yards from each side to reach a width of 74 yards (68 m). In 2014, the team expanded the field by another yard to a total field size of 11 0 by 75 yards (101 m × 69 m).

In April 2017, Portland Timbers unveiled a $ 50 million renovation plan that will add about 4,000 new seats to the east side of the stadium. . Business President Timbers for Business, Mike Golub, stated that “we felt that we needed to see how we could transform the stadium and increase capacity to meet the demand we have for tickets, and also position the club as viable and competitive for long years. ” “, Referring to the current season ticket waiting list for the current season, which is about 13 000. ” Timbers “reported that the repair will be free in Portland, and the stadium’s capacity will be about 25 000 people. The club worked with a company located in Portland Allied Works Architect for development project expansion and started construction at the end of 2017 in order to prepare the repaired stadium at the end of May or early June of the 2019 MLS season.
